How to Make a Trash Bag Poncho

If you're going camping or to an outdoor event and the weather calls for a chance of showers, you need some protective clothing. You can save yourself the trouble and the expense of buying rain gear or a poncho by making one out of a trash bag. A trash bag is cheap and portable, and you can stuff it into the tiniest of spaces.

Unfold the trash bag with the seam at the top and opening at the bottom. Decide if you want the poncho to cover the top of your head or if you want your head to stick out.

Create an opening for your face or head in the center of one side of the bag near the seam. You can do this ahead of time with scissors or rip it with your hands when you need it.

Slip the trash bag over your head, making sure you can breath and see completely. If you want your head to fit all the way through the bag, see that the hole is big enough.

Add arm holes if you need to use your arms. If you aren't going to use your arms or hands, you can omit the arm holes and let your arms stay dry tucked in the bag close to your body.
